Attaching additional storage to your server

Volumes attach to a running instance without a reboot. This guide covers attaching, formatting and persisting the mount across restarts.

Attach the volume

Create the volume in the same region as the instance, then attach it from the panel or the CLI. The device appears as an NVMe block device within a few seconds.

attach.sh
$ innova volume attach --id vol_8f2a1c --server vps-800-fra1
$ lsblk -o NAME,SIZE,MOUNTPOINT

Format and mount

A fresh volume has no filesystem. Format it once, then add an fstab entry so the mount survives a reboot.

mount.sh
$ mkfs.ext4 -F /dev/nvme1n1
$ mkdir -p /mnt/data && mount /dev/nvme1n1 /mnt/data
